"That day was the end of one journey and the start of another for me. In that moment I knew that there had to be something more I could do to help myself..."
A truly defining moment for me was the day I stood in the parking lot after my appointment with the best and most senior dermatologist in my city. After having waited for about 10 months to get this appointment, I stood there completely disappointed and utterly hopeless. I waited for a few hours that morning for my appointment, I was taken into the room, and the doctor came in for about a total of 30 seconds. He looked at me and said “yes this is vitiligo, if you have some on your face you can speak to the receptionist on your way out and you might be able to qualify for a new drug Pfizer is looking to introduce in Canada”. I couldn’t believe that I spent so many days building up so much anticipation and hope for this appointment, why had I waited so long to hear that? It reminded me of my earlier appointments with my family doctor who looked at me, laughed, and said, “yes this is vitiligo, it will get worse, it will spread and be with you for life, there is nothing you can do”. That day was the end of one journey and the start of another for me. In that moment I knew that there had to be something more I could do to help myself, this couldn’t be the end of it. I had no interest in trying experimental treatments with Pfizer.
My story with vitiligo goes back about 13 years, when I was pregnant with my first daughter. After she was born I noticed that I had some white patches on my arms. I actually only realized it while looking at pictures of myself holding her in the hospital bed. I didn't know what it was at the time but over the course of the following year and many doctor and skin specialist appointments later I was told that I had an autoimmune condition known as Vitiligo. I had never heard of this before and was quite surprised....it was something very new to me and of course it started spreading. It started under my left eye, then travelled to my right hand, then my elbows, my back..etc.
For those of you reading this who are going through any autoimmune condition you will agree that it really is an emotional journey. I went through feelings of confusion, panic, acceptance, and of course trying to cover it up. Summers were always the hardest for me. Being confident and trying to accept it was definitely a battle. Luckily I had a supportive family and supportive friends who always helped me see past it. I spent years trying everything to overcome vitiligo. For most of the time I would describe myself as circling back to a state of "hopelessness". When you have something that is termed as "autoimmune" you often do feel hopeless. I was told that my own body is attacking itself.
Fast forward to when I was introduced to Dr. Nelson's work with the Emotion Code, it opened my eyes to a new understanding of how energy and emotion work. It gave me hope and made me feel empowered to help change and heal my own body and mind.
I was very excited about Dr. Nelson's work, it really resonated with me and that was really the beginning of my new healing journey. I learned about healing on a deeper level. Although I started learning about the Emotion Code and Body Code being very focused on my skin issues I quickly realized that this healing framework was benefiting so much more. Some of the areas I’ve had growth - I feel emotionally stronger, my skin is healing, gained confidence, improvements in relationships, found the ability to speak my mind, healed long term knee pain, better understanding of my energy, and moved to a state of feeling more abundant love and happiness.
